Flue Liners: After the hot combustible gasses have traveled through the first loop, the temperature of these gases has dropped significantly, and fire brick are no longer necessary. From this point on, in some stoves but not all, flue liners are layed into the flue of the stove. The flue liners carry the burning gases and also conduct the heat transfer to the outer brick. In a stove without flue liners, the inside brick are pargeted with a fire clay or mortar to keep the inside smooth for the free travel of burned gasses. Above the damper, a flue liner is used to ensure the safe departure of burned gasses, and also to make the inside of the flue finished and smooth.
