Clean Out: On the last loop of flue it is necessary to install a clean out door. This door is not for cleaning soot, because if properly used, the Russian Stove does not deposit soot inside the flues. The clean out is there to remove objects that may fall into the flue from above. A periodic inspection of this area will tell the operator whether or not he or she is using proper burning technique. If the inside shows very little sign of soot, then the operator will know the right system has been employed. If there is soot build up, the operator will have to make hotter, faster burning fires, with a full open damper. It is wise to save some fast burning cottonwood for just such an occasion.
