Air Vent: Because during the initial burning of the wood a large amount of air is used, it is helpful to have an air vent going into the fire box. This could come from outside, thus minimizing the amount of cold air sucked in through cracks in the windows and doors of the house, or it could come from the living area near the stove. In any case this air can be regulated to insure a quick burning of the wood into red hot coals. With a properly constructed air vent, it becomes unecessary to leave the door to the fire box open, this has obvious advantages.
